Material Landscape

"Material Landscape" is a photographic series that examines the materials surrounding us, capturing the moment when their forms and textures emerge as entirely different landscapes.

Nature and the artificial, life and matter, the internal and the external—we establish various boundaries to perceive and understand the world.

​

Yet, man-made objects, too, originate from the very materials that constitute the Earth. Viewed in this light, the world—which we often perceive as a collection of disparate elements—begins to look different.

​

By engaging with familiar materials such as concrete, glass, and metal, I discover forms within their textures that evoke natural landscapes or living entities.

​

When a single material manifests as something else, it is not the object itself that changes, but the perception of the observer.

​

Through this shift in perception, things that once seemed distinct reveal themselves as part of a continuous landscape. Through photography, I explore the boundaries by which we compartmentalize the world and the underlying connections that link them together.

「Material Landscape」は、身の回りにある物質を見つめ、

その形態や質感が別の風景として立ち上がる瞬間を捉える写真作品である。

​

自然と人工、生命と物質、内部と外部。私たちは世界を理解するため、

さまざまな境界を設けて物事を認識している。

​

しかし、人工物もまた、地球を構成する物質から生まれたものである。そう考えるとき、私たちが異なるものとして捉えている世界の姿が、少し違って見えてくる。

​

コンクリートやガラス、金属など、身近な物質に向き合い、その形態や質感の中に、自然の風景や生命を想起させる姿を見出す。

​

一つの物質が別のものとして立ち現れるとき、変化しているのは対象そのものではなく、

それを見る側の認識である。

​

その認識の変化を通して、異なるものとして存在していたものが、連続した一つの風景として現れてくる。写真を通して、私たちが世界を分けて捉える境界と、その背後にあるつながりを探っている。
